History

KOINONIA BISHOP HOUSE

The Ankamaly Diocese of the Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church is largest diocese of the Church. For the smooth functioning and compactoble administration the Ankamaly diocese was divided into three regions during 1990's, namely, High Range, Kothamangalam and Ankamaly.

The Bishop's House, Koinonia was founded as the office of the Ankamaly Region. Later, when the diocese was again divided into four by instituting the new region of Perumbavoor, Koinonia has become the office of the new region. Even though the diocese started functioning of another region called Muvattupuzha in 2014 by comprising some churches from Perumbavoor and Kothamangalam regions, Koinonia still functions as the office of the Perumbavoor Region as well as the abode of her present Bishop, His Grace Mor Aphrem Mathews Metropolitan.

Koinonia is the word derived from Greek which renders the meaning of "fellowship" or "community" and also translated as union. This brings a complete sense intimate spiritual communion and participative sharing in a common religious commitment and spiritual community.

Koinonia Bishop house is situated in the Perumbavoor city were it is known to be the centre of thriving plywood and timber industry, and visitors come to explore the lush greenery and natural beauty of the area.

Under the leadership and guidance of H. G. Mor Aphrem Mathews Metropolitan the regional office is being worked in a systematic way which is very orderly and efficiently poised. Also the extemporary vision of the Metropolitan there is a Koinonia Mission hospital which is assuring free Dialysis for the poor people suffering from kidney disorder in the state and Mor Athanasius Rehabilitation Centre giving attention and assistance to the mentally challenged students. Both these institutions are being working for the people who are ostracized in the society enabling them a love, hope for their bright future and comfortable living.
